LAM SOON PLANTATIONS SDN BHD, A MEMBER OF ROUNDTABLE ON SUSTAINABLE PALM OIL (RSPO) SINCE 27 OCTOBER 2007

Lam Soon Plantations Sdn Bhd has joined as a member of the Roundtable On Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).

RSPO is an association created by organisations which are engaged in and around the entire supply chain of palm oil. It aims to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil through cooperation within the supply chain and open dialogue with its stakeholders.

 
Pacific Oleochemicals Overall Winner of Responsible Care Award 2006 (Oleochemicals Category)


On the 10th September 2007, the award of recognition was presented by YB Dato’ Seri Azmi Khalid, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment to Managing Director Mr. Tan Geok Chai at the Chemical Industry Dinner in Kuala Lumpur.

Pacific Oleochemicals (POC) has again won all the six (6) Codes of Management Practices:

Lam Soon Plantations nominated for the 'Best Harmonious Plantation Workforce Award' (Anugerah Ladang Bahagia)

Lam Soon Plantations Sdn Bhd was nominated by the Sabah Government to represent Lahad Datu district for the best maintained plantation labour force. Lam Soon Plantations with nominees from other districts will be competing for the award at the state level.

The nomination reflects Lam Soon’s commitment to the well being of its plantation work force.




 



Knife cooking oil wins again! 2007 Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Award

Achieving Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand status is a genuine recognition of consumer' approval.

Being named a Trusted Brand means a brand is truly top-of-mind among consumer.

The survey is based on responses to questionnaires distributed via Reader’s Digest copies as well as telephone interviews of randomly selected, upscale consumers. All survey work is carried out for Reader’s Digest by Nielsen Media Research, a world leader in international media research and analysis, to ensure results are compiled in an objective manner using proven statistical techniques.

In addition, Knife brand was also again awarded Reader's Digest Trusted Brand, Platinum in Singapore and Asia Trusted Brand, Gold.

Audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the APBF committee selects the best of brands based on a 300 points judging award criteria which covers:

Pacific Oleo sweeps 6 awards at Chemical Industry's Responsible Care Award 2005

Responsible Care (RC) is the global chemical industry's environmental, health and safety (EHS) initiative to drive continuous improvement in performance.

Pacific Oleochemicals (formerly known as Akzo Nobel Oleochemicals) has committed as a signatory to the voluntary initiative since it was launched by Chemical Industries Council of Malaysia (CICM) in 1994. The RC Awards was aimed to provide recognition to Responsible Care signatories that have made most progress in implementing the Six Codes of Management Practices.

For the RC Awards 2005, Pacific Oleo again emerged the overall winner for the Oleochemicals category; by winning all the six (6) Codes of Management Practices, namely:

Knife and Buruh win the 2006 Reader's Digest Trusted Brand Awards

On 2 May 2006, Knife, for the 7th consecutive year, and Buruh bagged the Reader's Digest Trusted Brand 2006 Gold Awards in the cooking oil category.

Such prestigious award reaffirms our consumers' long-standing trust and preference in our brands.

In addition, Knife brand was again awarded with the Platinum status in Singapore and the Gold status in Asia.

Pacific Oleo's Pasir Gudang site awarded the OHSAS 18001 certification.

OHSAS is an acronym for Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series. This Management System serves as a guideline to the organization to control OH&S risks associated with activities and improvement of OH&S performance.

On January 2006, Pacific Oleo's Pasir Gudang site was successfully recommended for the achievement of the OHSAS 18001 certification by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Ltd. The original certification was later obtained on 12th April 2006. This certification is significant to the existing QHSE Management System which has always emphasized on Occupational Safety and Health since its early establishment. The implementation of OHSAS 18001 shall further strengthen and complement the Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) System which has been in place since 2004.

Lam Soon bagged the "Most Innovative Booth" Award at MIFB 2005

At the recent Malaysia International Food & Beverage ( MIFB 2005) exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur from 14th - 16th July 2005 , which saw more than 300 exhibitors participating and attracted over 15,000 visitors , Lam Soon Edible Oils Sdn Bhd is honored to have won the Most Innovative Booth Design Award.

On 28th April 2005, Knife brand received the SuperBrand 2005 Gold Awards from Reader's Digest Asia.

During this Reader's Digest 2005 SuperBrand consumer Survey, Reader's Digest distributed 180,000 questionnaires across Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philipines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand; asking their readers to nominate their favourite brands. In addition to processing responses from this group, Reader's Digest also commissioned Nielson Media Research to interview thousands of consumer by telephone with the same questions. They were asked to access their nominated brands for the core values of Quality, Value, Strengh of Image, Trustworthiness and how well each brand Understands the consumers needs.

Based on this survey, Knife was again voted by readers of Reader's Digest as their SuperBrand for the 6th consecutive years.

The development of the food safety systems in our factories gained momentum as our cooking oil plant at Telok Panglima Garang successfully implemented the HACCP system. The system was accredited by SGS in January 2005.

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point or HACCP is an internationally recognized approach in managing and controlling food safety hazards.

Recognising the importance of an overall food safety management system, our refinery, fats & margarine plant at Pasir Gudang, Johor has successfully implemented the HACCP system and was accredited by the European Quality Assurance (EQA) in September 2004.

As recognition for being a member of the Palm Oil Refiners' Association of Malaysia (PORAM) for more than 25 years, Lam Soon was presented an Award of Appreciation by Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kin, the Minister of Plantation Industries & Commodities, during the PORAM dinner on 11 September 2004, on behalf of the Association.

On 5 May 2004, Knife was presented with the Superbrands Malaysia award by the Malaysian Superbrands Council, for being one of the country's strongest brand.

On 24 March 2004, Knife received the inaugural "National Creativity & Innovation Award 2004" for being an outstanding brand in Malaysia that has contributed to lay a foundation for brand development in the country.

This award is an endeavour by the Malaysian Design Technology Centre (MDTC) headed by Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, under the Malaysian government Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), to honour private enterprise for its efforts to build strong brand.

The Responsible Care Awards 2003 was organized by Chemical Industries Council of Malaysia on 9th March 2004 to commend the leading chemical companies in Malaysia for their continuous commitments towards the Responsible Care Programme. AKZO NOBEL OLEOCHEMICALS (ANO), an associated company of Lam Soon (Malaysia), came away with two distinctions, receiving both the Corporate Award (Gold) for Distribution Code and the Corporate Award (Silver) for Pollution Prevention Code.

Akzo Nobel Oleochemicals, an associated company of the Lam Soon Group, is proud to announce that it has been formally accredited with HACCP certification in August 2002. The HACCP system and certification is an assessment for assurance in food safety.

Akzo Nobel Oleochemicals Sdn Bhd is the first and only oleochemical plant in the Far East to be accredited with the HACCP status.

On 28 March 2002, Lloyd (LRQA) re-certified Southern Lion under the new ISO 9001:2000 version. This was achieved after several months of hard work changing over from the old to the new version.

To better prepare itself, Southern Lion has targeted achieving the ISO 14001 in year 2003 and also, a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) plant for the personal-care product line in the near future.

In conjunction with Giant's 2001 Supplier Charity Dinner, Lam Soon (M) Berhad was awarded the Best Service Supplier of the Year Award (2001) for the Category of Cooking Oil. The award was given for the contribution of service level, sales and profitability to Giant in the Cooking Oil category.

Lam Soon (M) Berhad was also awarded the Category Management Award 2001 (Cooking Oil) in recognition for the active role played as the Category Captain for cooking oil. The award was given for the excellent service level, trade marketing support and re-merchandizing support for current and new outlets opening.
